The pandemic has affected almost every aspect of our lives. With lockdowns being enforced at various stages throughout the year, most of us have had to stay inside. Chances are you are working from home and have put various plans on hold for the foreseeable future.
Home quarantines can be stressful but after four months of being confined to our homes, there have been some upside as well. Maybe we have learned a few skills here and there, realized the importance of certain things in our lives or even stopped taking our lives for granted. One thing is for sure, we have learned to be a lot more about self-independent.
As India’s Independence Day draws near, let’s look at a few essential life lessons learned during home quarantine:
Most of us are so used to the high demand of tight work schedules that we, probably, never had the time to cook for ourselves. But the lockdown has forced many of us to cook at home since ordering restaurant food isn’t an option we would like to take a risk on. Learning to cook even basic meals has made us self-reliant while improving our culinary prowess.
Having been cut-off from household help, it has become the family’s responsibility to divide work amongst ourselves. So naturally, we have become more used to doing household chores like cleaning, washing dishes, dusting, etc. This ultimately has accustomed us to our home responsibilities, something that we haven’t been used to before.
The quarantine has proved to be an apt time to focus on your old hobbies which you didn’t have time for before or even start a new one. From exploring new cuisines, learning a new language, learning a course or just dusting off old musical instruments, we have started a new vocational activity or continued long-lost ones by making time for ourselves.
Being forced to stay at home all day for weeks can give rise to a feeling of lethargy and boredom. The biggest challenge has been to continue our daily routines in spite of being at home. That includes working from home, working out, making time for ourselves and our families. The lockdown has taught us to set a routine to follow and stick to it.
The lockdown has been a testing time but it has also taught us a thing or two about freedom and independence. And these lessons will continue to be a part of our lives even after the quarantine period ends. But one thing is for sure, living in a home that provides all aspects of a holistic life is essential, as learned during this time.
